Proof of industriousness

I’m woefully overdue to write a post. I’ve been reading profiles of bloggers for both the U.S. and Canadian versions of The Connection (www.costcoconnection.ca). (The U.S. Issue isn’t out yet.) most of the bloggers we profile say the key is to post at least weekly and to write about something you love.

I do love making jewelry and playing with art supplies. However, do I love to write about it?

I do like looking at pictures of craft p*rn. And, if pictures are worth 1,000 words, then I’ll post at least a couple thousand “words.” (Making up for my recent lack of posts, right?!)

I made this sugar skull  with resin, then painted it. Then beaded around it. A gold one is in the works.

I prepared this bezel sometime last year. I poured in Pebeo paint, added the Cthulu-like charm and poured in resin as the last step. I the made a chain with the tri stitch.

While working on this, I remembered how much I love wire wrapping. Lid never disassembled a chain before and then reassembled it with wire wrapping. Fun, fun! The heart is filled with Pebeo paint, glitter and resin.

Lately I’ve needed to play and make something beyond Scrabble tile pendants. My hands and brain are happy.

Ok, back to playing.

So soon with the delay?

I like how, before typing, I get this prompt: Share your story here.

My story? The one about the girl who means to blog–or at least post something–regularly, but manages not to? I think she’s the same girl who would rather write posts using her phone, which results in so many typos.

Oh, she has plans and ideas, but they languish. It’s a funny thing  that words would ever fail her considering how she’ll talk a person’s ear off given half a chance.

I suppose that’s enough badmouthing. I mean, a) it’s weird to write about myself like that, and b) I did recently complete these items.

Now to board a plan and head home with a noggin full of thoughts about doing the things I truly love.

First day of the market

How can it be that it’s already the start of another market season? This is the 40th year of the Redmond Saturday Market and my sixth season there. (It’s also my first season without my brother volunteering there or serving as the onsite manager. I suppose I’ll adapt, but I’m still not crazy about the idea.)

It’s good to be back among friendly, familiar faces. I know some people don’t understand why I give my Saturdays to the market, but there are so many worse ways to spend a day.

You know what else is good about the market? Morgan digs that I do it. That certainly makes it easier to give up a chunk of my weekend. One way he shows his support is by looking for ways to make my set up easier for me. He made these great cases for me. They look wonderful and really did save me several minutes.

Indeed, he’s great, and I appreciate the hell out of him!

Wood burning

I don’t know why, but this spring I’ve decided that I need to up my wood-burning skills–what few skills I have.

I have a simple tool, nothing like the expensive ones that serious pyrographers use.

I’ve been drawing some simple, cartoony cats and decided to try burning them into wood. I made two bracelets and colored one with prismacolors and the other with water color pencils. I have to say, while the cats are no natural color, I much prefer the water color pencils.

And then there’s this guy. A colleague was trimming a tree and gave me several round pieces like this. I’m not sure if it’s his fur or what, but I want him to be real so that I can hug him.

There’s still so much to learn and try. I’ll get there, maybe… In the meantime I’ll continue to have fun while I try to brush up on those elusive skills.

Craft fair day

After a kind of lazy winter, I have to admit that it was good to participate in the spring craft fair at work. It’s not only fun to see items I hadn’t seen in a few months, but it was encouraging to hear the kind remarks about my new items.

It was fun to chat with people, and it was fun to sit quietly and work on projects.

Two weeks from tomorrow the Redmond Saturday Market will start its new season. Bring on the Veraci Pizza, kettle corn, honey, gentle days of lounging in the sun, the community and the freedom to create!
